About the Iowa Hospital Association

The Iowa Hospital Association is a nonprofit trade association of more than 115 hospital and health system members. Established in 1929, IHA provides its members with advocacy, education and data services. The association represents and advocates health policy issues that benefit Iowans before the state legislature, U.S. Congress and regulatory bodies. IHA is based in Des Moines and is an allied member of the American Hospital Association.

Openings

The Iowa Hospital Association is seeking a Director of Accounting. This person, who will report to the Vice President of Operations, will provide accounting and financial duties for IHA and its affiliate organizations and third-party administrator accounting services for the State of Iowa Directed Payment Program.

Specific duties include:

  • Help with Universal Service Administrative Company filings for the Iowa Rural Health Telecommunications Program.
  • Maintain adequate organized records for accounting.
  • Manage month-end procedures to ensure expenses are posted, including accrued vacation and salaries, allocation of overhead costs, monthly revenue and expense allocations, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare biweekly payroll and quarterly payroll tax reports.
  • Process month-end and year-end procedures for the general ledger.
  • Process W-2 and 1099’s annually.
  • Reconcile bank accounts monthly.
  • Submit biweekly 401(k) and other payroll withholdings to appropriate agencies.
  • Update fixed assets quarterly.
  • Work with the Accounting Operations Administrative Assistant to ensure accounts payable and receivable are processed accurately.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.

Job requirements:

  • A four-year accounting degree or equivalent experience
  • Computer and accounting software experience
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Meticulous with the ability to multitask
  • Work with tight deadlines while managing multiple projects
