MercyOne partners with Phreesia to automate social needs screenings

MercyOne has partnered with Phreesia Inc., a Raleigh, N.C.-based health care technology company, to provide electronic screening of every MercyOne patient to evaluate unmet social needs. The Des Moines-based health system began using the screening platform developed by Phreesia in September 2020, and over the past year has conducted more than 35,000 social determinants of health screenings in its central and north Iowa markets. Federally funded health centers in Iowa awarded $9.5M

Iowa’s 14 primary health care centers will receive nearly $9.5 million in federal funding for pandemic-related needs. Hospital system says it will deny transplants to the unvaccinated in ‘almost all situations’

A Colorado-based health system says it is denying organ transplants to patients not vaccinated against the coronavirus in “almost all situations,” citing studies that show these patients are much more likely to die if they get Covid-19. The Washington Post

California mandates implicit bias training for nursing students

A California law signed Oct. 1 will require all nursing schools and programs to incorporate implicit bias training into their curriculum, and hospitals to implement evidence-based programs on the matter into new graduate training. Becker’s Hospital Review

New York’s largest private hospital system now 100% vaccinated

Northwell Health, the largest hospital system in New York state, announced Monday that all of its employees have been vaccinated against the coronavirus. The move comes just one week after the state issued a vaccine mandate for all health workers. ABC News
