Submit nominations for 2023 Advanced Leadership Academy
Help IHA and hospitals foster health care leaders by submitting nominations to the 2023 Advanced Leadership Academy. The academy was created to support future leaders by integrating in-person learning, mentoring and networking. The 2023 cohort will be guided by Lisa Radtke, a former IHA board member and retired hospital executive, and IHA member CEOs, former health care executives and industry experts.

The program consists of five sessions held at IHA and health care facilities in central Iowa and culminates in capstone project presentations in April 2024. Discussions cover a variety of leadership topics including:

  • Communicating with stakeholders, staff and the public.
  • Creating a high-performing organizational culture.
  • Equipping leaders for effective financial management.
  • Maintaining CEO, board and staff relations.
  • Thinking strategically.

To join the 2023 cohort, hospital CEOs must nominate a candidate. Candidates then must register after being nominated. Members of the 2023 class will have a mentor assigned to them. Members also will receive a complimentary registration for the 2023 and 2024 IHA Summer Leadership Forum and 2024 Governance Forum.

HC3 releases mobile device security checklist
Mobile devices are becoming a critical part of health care operations. Mobile devices must be protected because of their abilities to store and process private health information and sensitive data. The Health Sector Cybersecurity Coordination Center released a checklist of recommendations health organizations can take to reduce the risk of stolen information.

HHS grants expand community behavioral health clinics
Nonprofit behavioral health organizations can apply for up to $1 million each to create a certified community behavioral health clinic, and existing certified clinics can apply for up to $1 million each to expand or improve services. The grants are available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The agency expects to award 62 grants for new clinics and 62 grants to existing clinics. Applications are due Monday, May 22.

Certified community behavioral health clinics must provide continuous access to crisis services and routine outpatient care within 10 business days, and serve anyone who requests care for mental health or substance use despite their ability to pay.

The agency last week awarded Iowa and 14 other states with similar planning grants.
