Inpatient/Outpatient Databases

The IHA Statewide Inpatient Database contains patient level discharge data for all acute discharges including newborns from Iowa community hospitals starting in 1988. Beginning in 2001 rehab, SNF and swing bed discharges are also available. In addition to having data from all Iowa hospitals, we also have acute discharge information on Iowa residents treated in non-Iowa hospitals.

The IHA Statewide Outpatient Database contains a subset of hospital and outpatient procedures from Iowa hospitals and surgery centers and has been available since 1995. In 2004, the outpatient database was expanded to include all hospital outpatient visits.

Data is submitted from Iowa hospitals quarterly and information from these databases is released in the form of patient origin and destination studies, custom reports and data in electronic format. For more information on the IHA Statewide Databases, e-mail the IHA information center.
